Zooming in on the disturbed galactic duo NGC 3169 and NGC 3166
This sequence starts with a wide-field view of the prominent constellation of Leo (The Lion). As we zoom in many fainter stars become visible as well as a few of the many galaxies in this part of the sky. In the final sequence we close in on the pair of galaxies NGC 3169 and NGC 3166. This detailed view was captured by the Wide Field Imager on the MPG/ESO 2.2-metre telescope at the La Silla Observatory in Chile.
