VLT Unit Telescope and Auxiliary Telescope in allignment
This image from ESO's Paranal observatory shows the one of the four 1.8m diameter Auxiliary Telescopes (ATs) against the backdrop of one of the giant 8.2-m Unit Telescopes of the Very Large Telescope (VLT).
The four Auxiliary Telescopes (ATs) are 1.8m diameter telescopes that feed light to the Very Large Telescope Interferometer. Uniquely for telescopes of this size they can be moved from place to place around the VLT platform and are self-contained.
