Rendering of the MICADO instrument

Artist depiction of the MICADO instrument set to be used with the ELT telescope upon completion. The instrument will employ adaptive optics and will be one of the first instruments used with the telescope. MICADO's design was driven by a need for high sensitivity and high spatial resolution imaging, as well as wide wavelength coverage spectroscopy. ESO is an associate member of the MICADO consortium and is responsible for the development and procurement of the science detector systems that use the most advanced near-infrared detectors currently available.
