Milky Way revealed above La Silla night sky
Our Milky Way galaxy stretches above the Chilean night sky, as seen from La Silla in this fish-eye (fulldome) view. The site has been an ESO stronghold since the 1960s. Here, ESO operates two of the most productive 4-metre class telescopes in the world – the ESO 3.6-metre telescope and 3.58-metre New Technology Telescope (NTT), seen in the distance. The infrastructure of the site is also used by many of the ESO Member States for targeted projects. Centre stage in this image is the Danish 1.54-metre telescope.
