The VLT and three galaxies in UHD
This image shows part of our home galaxy the Milky Way stretching across the top o the frame, as well as two of its satellite galaxies: the Large Magellanic Cloud and the Small Magellanic Cloud. The picture was taken at the Paranal Observatory in the Atacama desert of Chile. One of the four Unit Telescopes of the Very Large Telescope array (VLT) is captured in this image. One of four Auxiliary Telescopes that can be connected to make the Very Large Telescope Interferomerter (VLTI) can be seen in the background.
