A VLT mirror goes back to work
A truck drives uphill at Cerro Paranal, carrying the 8.2-metre primary mirror of the VLT’s Antu Telescope (UT1). The mirror is being returned to the telescope after a recoating, in November 2010. Each of the VLT’s primary mirrors is recoated every 18 months, in a process that takes a week.
