The 1-metre Schmidt telescope at ESO’s La Silla Observatory, taken in February 1996. This telescope began its service life in 1971, using photographic plates to take wide-field images of the southern sky. Since 2009, it is controlled and operated remotely from Yale University, to search for new Pluto-sized dwarf planets and supernovae in the southern sky.
