La Silla skyline
This image shows the dense skyline of telescopes at ESO's La Silla Observatory in the Atacama Desert. La Silla is the home to many ESO telescopes as well as other national telescopes that have been labelled in this image. A few of these telescopes are decommissioned, but the New Technology Telescope (NTT) and the MPG/ESO 2.2-metre telescope are still operated by ESO. The ESO 3.6-metre telescope, which is mounted with the High Accuracy Radial velocity Planet Searcher (HARPS), is located behind the photographer and is just outwith this view. A hotel and lodging facilities on the right house astronomers and other workers during their time at La Silla.
