Lined up
The plane of the Milky Way — rippled with dust, gas and stars — elegantly stretches above the four Unit Telescopes of the Very Large Telescope (VLT), three lined up behind one another. The VLT Survey Telescope is also visible towards the bottom in this unusual fulldome fish-eye perspective from ESO's Paranal Observatory in northern Chile.
The red and green radiance scattering the sky is a luminescence known as airglow.
