Home in the desert

This image shows the Residencia, the hotel that serves as home for the staff and astronomers working at ESO's Very Large Telescope (VLT). The Residencia has several leisure facilities including a music room, library and cinema, and even a large indoor garden with a swimming pool. It offers a relaxing oasis amid the harsh desert surroundings for its inhabitants, who often have to work long hours. The glamorous interior was also used as a backdrop for part of the James Bond movie "Quantum of Solace".
