A view from the inside of the ELT dome

This picture was taken in early August 2023 and shows the inside of the dome of ESO’s Extremely Large Telescope (ELT), which is under construction and now close to 80 metres high. The network of steel structures over the round concrete base is mounted on a rail inserted into trolleys. Thanks to this movable structure, the entire dome of the telescope will rotate and the ELT will be able to observe different parts of the sky. At the centre we can see the foundations that will support the telescope structure.
