La Silla in moonlight

In this image it is not the Sun, but the Moon shining over the La Silla Observatory. It illuminates a thin layer of clouds overhead, as well as the observatory's telescopes. On the right is the Swiss 1.2-metre Leonhard Euler telescope that was built and is operated by the Geneva Observatory. The ascending road leads to the New Technology Telescope (NTT) which was inaugurated in 1989 and broke a new ground for telescope engineering and design.
