The cranes of the ELT

Almost as tall as the Big Ben, larger than Rome's Colosseum... the Extremely Large Telescope (ELT) is truly a massive building. A crane is seen here transporting many of the necessary materials. Some of the numbers for the materials used in the ELT include: 10000 tonnes of steel, 30 million bolts or 500 km of cables. Even compared to other large telescopes, the ELT is a one-of-a-kind.
