Bird's-eye view of the ELT

ESO's Extremely Large Telescope (ELT) is currently being built on Cerro Armazones in Chile's Atacama desert. This bird's-eye view shows the construction site in November 2024, with the steel frame of the dome being covered, and the altitude structure growing every day. The latter will host the telescope optics, including the ELT’s five mirrors.
