METIS, un outil polyvalent pour l'ELT

METIS sera l'un des instruments de première génération de l'Extremely Large Telescope (ELT) de l'ESO. Nommé d'après la déesse grecque de la sagesse, METIS est l'acronyme de Mid-infrared ELT Imager and Spectrograph (imageur et spectrographe dans l'infrarouge moyen de l'ELT). Cet instrument observera le ciel à des longueurs d'onde infrarouges pour étudier un large éventail de sujets scientifiques, des objets de notre système solaire aux galaxies lointaines. Ce documentaire vous fera découvrir les coulisses du fonctionnement de METIS, les défis posés par la conception d'un instrument aussi complexe et la manière dont il modifiera notre compréhension du cosmos une fois qu'il sera opérationnel à l'ELT.
