På rejse til det tætteste par supertunge sorte huller
Videoen tager os ud til NGC 7727, en galakse 89 millioner lysår borte, hvor det tætteste par supertunge sorte huller, som er fundet til dato, befinder sig. Parret er også det med den mindste indbyrdes afstand blandt de supertunge sorte huller - blot 1600 lysår er der imellem dem.
Hvert af de to sorte huller befinder sig i centrum af en af de to klare kerner i NGC 7727, som vi ser dem i slutningen af denne video. De to sorte huller er på kollisionskurs med hinanden, og de er dømt til at støde sammen og smelte ind til eet gigantisk sort hul, sandsynligvis indenfor de næste 250 millioner år.
Forstørrelsen af de centrale områder af NGC 7727 og de to kerner er optaget med instrumentet MUSE på ESOs Very Large Telescope på Paranalobservatoriet i Chile.
