Testing the new Paranal lasers

This photograph shows the first laser projection system of the nine new lasers currently being built for ESO’s Very Large Telescope Interferometer, as part of the GRAVITY+ upgrades, and ESO’s Extremely Large Telescope. The projection system was built in the Netherlands by companies TNO and Demcon. After some tests at ESO’s Headquarters in Garching, Germany, where this photograph was taken, the system recently passed a successful review.
