The VLT above the clouds on the Paranal platform

This image shows the four large Unit Telescopes and the four smaller Auxiliary Telescopes that make up ESO’s Very Large Telescope. The Unit Telescope 1, which started operating 25 years ago this week, stands at the centre of the image, next to the Auxiliary Telescopes.
