Bird's eye view of the ELT (artist's impression)
This video shows an artist's impression of the Extremely Large Telescope, the ELT, to be built on Cerro Armazones over 3000-metres high in the Chilean Andes. When completed, the ELT will be the "world's biggest eye on the sky" and will help astronomers to answer many of the most exciting mystery's of the Universe.
The design for the ELT shown here was published in 2011 and is preliminary.
