Día de puertas abiertas 2015 – Larga noche de ciencia en la sede central de ESO
El 27 de junio de 2015, la sede central de ESO en Garching (Alemania) abrió sus puertas al público como parte de la “larga noche de la ciencia” (Lange Nacht der Wissenschaften), junto con otras instalaciones con sede en el campus científico de Garching. ESO invitó a los visitantes a conocer de primera mano el trabajo de esta organización líder mundial en astronomía terrestre, ofreciéndoles la oportunidad de participar en dieciocho actividades diferentes. Antes incluso de la apertura oficial de las puertas, prevista para las seis de la tarde, ya había personas esperando fuera, ansiosos por conocer la sede y participar en las actividades. En total, 3.800 personas asistieron a los eventos y tuvieron la oportunidad de: obtener respuestas a sus preguntas planteadas a astrónomos expertos; ver experimentos en directo; unirse a visitas guiadas a los nuevos edificios técnicos y de oficinas; escuchar charlas sobre investigaciones astronómicas que se están desarrollando; visitar la exposición LIGHT: Beyond the Bulb; e incluso participar en entrevistas en directo hechas a astrónomos que trabajan en el desierto chileno de Atacama.
Este año se incluyeron en las actividades del evento presentaciones de futuros proyectos de ESO, como el European Extremely Large Telescope, cuya construcción acaba de comenzar en Chile, y el nuevo Planetario y Centro de visitantes Supernova de ESO, actualmente en construcción en la sede central. Cuando se inaugure en el año 2017 el ESO Supernova permitirá a los visitantes conocer de cerca el mundo de ESO y su trabajo no sólo una vez al año, sino durante todo el año.
