Dit spectaculaire stervormingsgebied, de Carinanevel, is gedetailleerd in beeld gebracht door de VLT Survey Telescope van de ESO-sterrenwacht op Paranal. De opname is gemaakt met assistentie van de Sebastián Piñera, de president van Chili, tijdens diens bezoek aan de sterrenwacht op 5 juni 2012, en vrijgegeven ter gelegenheid van de inauguratie van de nieuwe telescoop, op 6 december 2012 in Napels.
