ELT meeting in Marseille, November 2006
Participants in the ELT Meeting held in Marseille, on 27–30 November, 2006, where the planning for the project was extensively discussed among 250 astronomers and engineers before the detailed study was submitted to the ESO Council. At the centre of the group is Catherine Cesarsky, then ESO Director General. The ELT will be the largest optical/near-infrared telescope in the world and its start of operations is planned for early in the next decade.
