Rain in the driest place on Earth
These raindrops were photographed during very rare weather at ESO’s Paranal Observatory in northern Chile. This is usually one of the driest places on Earth but, during the storm of July 2011, very heavy rain fell and led to some localised flooding of the building. This artistic view of a unusual sight was captured by ESO Photo Ambassador Gianluca Lombardi.
