Mounted image 115: The Cat's Paw Nebula
The Cat’s Paw nebula is one of the most active stellar nurseries in our galaxy, and could contain several tens of thousands of stars. These observations were made with the Wide Field Imager at ESO’s La Silla Observatory in Chile. The red light in the image comes predominantly from hydrogen gas glowing under the intense glare of hot young stars.
