Aufnahme des Universums in Ultra High Definition



Dieses Foto, das am Paranal-Observatorium der ESO aufgenommen wurde, ist die erste Fotografie der Ultra HD-Expediton der ESO – einer Pionierreise, die gerade von vier angesehenen Videofilmern und ESO-Fotobotschaftern unternommen wird [1]. Ausgestattet mit den modernsten Ultra HD-Tools [2][3] nimmt das Team drei einzigartige Beobachtungsstandorte der ESO in Chile in all ihrer Pracht auf. Gleichzeitig dokumentieren die Teammitglieder die Reise und das Drumherum in einem Blog.
Die vier Hauptteleskope - Antu, Kueyen, Melipal and Yepun – eines der Hilfsteleskope des Very Large Telescope (VLT) und das VLT Survey Telescope (VST) sind in diesem Bild aus einer ungewohnten Perspektive fest gehalten. Das Fischaugenobjektiv ermöglicht eine 360°-Aufnahme, wodurch eine eindringliche Paranal-Welt mit der Milchstraße im Zentrum entsteht.
Entfernte kosmische Juwelen sind über dem VLT verstreut zu sehen – sie durchziehen den saphirfarbenen Nachthimmel. Am oberen Bildrand stehen Mond und Venus nebeneinander und strahlen wunderschön an der Eklitpik ausgerichtet mit Saturn (direkt über der Kuppel im unteren Teil des Bildes) um die Wette. Antares, Vega und Altair – einige der helleren Sterne des Himmels – sind ebenso zu erkennen [4]. Zwei irreguläre Zwerggalaxien, Begleiter der Milchstraße und als Kleine und Große Magellansche Wolke bekannt, sind links neben dem Hilfsteleskop mit ihrem schwachen Leuchten zu erkennen. Das Ganzkuppel-Bildmaterial, das mit dem Fischaugenobjektiv während der Expedition erstellt wurde, wird demnächst kostenlos für Planetariumsshows zur Verfügung gestellt werden (wie zum Beispiel jene in der ESO Supernova-Einrichtung ab 2017).
Die Expedition begann in Santiago in Chile am 25. März 2014. Am folgenden Tag ist das Team zum ersten Zwischenstop losgezogen: dem Paranal-Observatorium der ESO, wo dieses Bild am 26. März 2014 entstanden ist. Hier werden sie die nächsten Tage damit verbringen, Zeitraffer-Standbildaufnahmen, Videos und Panoramaaufnahmen vom Paranal – der Heimat vom Very Large Telescope, dem Flagschiff der ESO – zu erstellen, bevor das Team weiterreist, um das Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) und das La Silla-Observatorium ebenso im Bild festzuhalten. Am 8. April kehrt das Team nach Europa zurück.
