ALMA-Ausstellung in Santiago eröffnet

Im Mittelpunkt der kostenlosen Ausstellung ALMA, exploring our cosmic origins (ALMA, die Erforschung unserer kosmischen Ursprünge), die vom 7. Oktober 2015 bis zum 3. Januar 2016am Espacio Fundación Telefónica in Santiago in Chile zu sehen ist, stehen beeindruckende Fotografien und Videos vom Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA).
Die Ausstellung ist in vier Bereiche unterteilt und zeigt die Abläufe innerhalb des leistungsstärksten bdengebundenen Observatoriums der Welt. Gezeigt werden sowohl die Entwicklung und Konstruktion, als auch die bisherigen Entdeckungen von ALMA über unsere kosmischen Ursprünge.
Die gleichermaßen faszinierende und vielseitige Ausstellung wird durch eine Reihe kostenfreier Aktivitäten abgerundet. Dazu zählen Beobachtungen des Nachthimmels, kosmische Musikdarbietungen sowie Robotik- und Astrofotografie-Workshops. Das Programm wird durch Diskussionsrunden vervollständigt. Themen hierfür sind unter anderem Kunst und Astronomie, astronomische Ingenieurwissenschaften oder wie der chilenische Himmel am besten genutzt werden kann.
Lehrer und Schüler können an speziellen Aktivitäten teilnehmen, beispielsweise werden Vorträge von ALMA-Astronomen für Schulen angeboten. Außerdem werden pädagogische Workshops statt finden, in denen die Ausstellung verknüpft wird mit verschiedenen Inhalten aus Lehrplänen für Mathematik, Physik, Geschichte und Geographie, Wissenschaft, Sprache und Kommunikation und visuelle Künste.
In einer Zeit, in der fast die Hälfte der professionell betriebenen Weltraum-Observatorien der Welt auf chilenischem Boden angesiedelt sind, bietet die Ausstellung die seltene Möglichkeit Astronomie und neue Technologien direkt vom ALMA-Team vermittelt zu bekommen.
Das Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) ist eine internationale astronomische Einrichtung, die gemeinsam von der ESO, der US-amerikanischen National Science Foundation (NSF) der USA und den japanischen National Institutes of Natural Sciences (NINS) in Kooperation mit der Republik Chile betrieben wird. Die Ausstellung wurde vom Team für Öffentlichkeitsarbeit vom ALMA JAO in Chile vorbereitet.
