VLT VISIR
A pan shot of VISIR, a tool installed on the Very Large Telescope in 2004 that specialises in seeing infrared light which allows astronomers to study stars, protostars and molecular clouds that would otherwise be hidden behind dust. The VLT has four 8.2-m diameter Unit Telescopes which and each telescope can see objects that are four billion times fainter than what can be seen with the unaided eye.
