Exploded view of the METIS instrument

The Mid-infrared ELT Imager and Spectrograph (METIS) is a multi-tool instrument that will observe in mid-infrared light once installed on ESO’s Extremely Large Telescope (ELT). It will include an adaptive optics (AO) sensor, a high-resolution spectrograph, and a high-contrast camera. The image shows an artist's 3D view of the various components of the METIS instrument.
