The full Paranal night sky

This romantic scene taken with a fish-eye (fulldome) lens shows the beauty of the Chilean night sky in crisp ultra high definition from Paranal, home to the Very Large Telescope array (VLT). The Milky Way shines brightly above the platform where each of the four 8.2m Unit Telescopes (UTs) and smaller 1.8 diameter Auxiliary Telescopes can be seen, which together form a giant ‘interferometer’, the ESO Very Large Telescope Interferometer.
