Pointing to APEX

Above a snowy hill, the Atacama Pathfinder Experiment (APEX) telescope peers towards the sky. Below, an unusual stack of rust-tinted rocks can be seen. Over the years, especially before the invention of GPS, many rock piles have been built in order to signpost trusted paths through the desert landscape.
