In the belly of the beast
The telescope structure and secondary mirror can be seen inside the protective enclosure of one of ESO's Very Large Telescope's (VLT) Unit Telescopes (UT). The massive structure cocoons various technologies, such as active optics, that maintain the VLT at the world's foremost optical astronomical observatory, located at ESO's Paranal Observatory.
