Langzeitbelichtung der Großen und Kleinen Magellanschen Wolken
Jeder der Tausenden Punkte auf diesem Bild ist ein entfernter Stern und die glitzernden blauen Löcher zeigen unsere Nachbargalaxien, die Große und Kleine Magellansche Wolke. Obwohl es so aussieht, als sei dieses Bild mit einem Großteleskop gemacht, wurde es erstaunlicherweise am La-Silla-Observatorium der ESO mit einer tragbaren Konfiguration aus einer SBIG STL-11000M CCD-Kamera und einem herkömmlichen Canon Teleobjektiv aufgenommen. Es wurde in einer wissenschaftlichen Arbeit zusammen mit neuesten Simulationen veröffentlicht und ist ein interessantes Beispiel dafür, wie eine kleine Kamera, mit einem großlinsigen Objektiv, einer langen Belichtungszeit und das alles an einem der besten Beobachtungsplätze der Welt, großflächige schwache Details besser herausarbeiten können als ein großes Teleskop.
Diese Langzeitbelichtung wurde mittels der LRGB-Methode aufgenommen und gibt einen Einblick darin, was in der Astrofotografie heute alles möglich ist. Die Fotografie des Nachthimmels hält viele Herausforderungen bereit, unter anderem Störungen durch andere Lichtquellen als das Objekt, das man eigentlich fotografieren will und die Erfassung des Objektes mit hinreichend großem Kontrastumfang.
Die Maximierung des vom Objekt stammenden Signals bei gleichzeitiger Minimierung der Störungen durch anderer Quellen – das Rauschen – ist ein wichtiger Aspekt bei der Astrofotografie. Die Optimierung des Signal-Rausch-Abstands gelingt erheblich besser in Schwarz-weiß als in Farbe. Daher besteht ein cleverer Trick für eine hohe Bildqualität darin, eine Schwarz-weiß-Aufnahme zu machen, welche die feinen Bilddetails beisteuert, und diese durch Bilder in den einzelnen Farbbereichen zu überlagern, welche dann die Farbinformation beisteuern, so wie bei den Magellanschen Wolken auf dieser Aufnahme.
