Starting in October 2019 the web-based replacement for the ESO Phase 2 observing preparation tool P2PP named p2ls, has been released for operations at La Silla. p2ls replaces P2PP for (designated) Visitor Mode observations of all instruments available at La Silla. Note that p2ls is the La Silla counterpart of the Paranal tool p2.
Web-based Phase 2 Tool for La Silla
Published: 16 Oct 2019
As with p2, the use of p2ls provides a flexible and efficient observing experience for Visitor Mode observations; the tool implements current features available in P2PP with important new benefits:
- for the first time Phase 2 delegation become available for La Silla;
- it allows the PI, or her/his Phase 2 delegate, to create or modify Observing Blocks (OBs) directly in the ESO database from a web browser;
- OB changes done through p2ls are immediately visible in the La Silla Control Room;
- visiting astronomers and designated visiting astronomers are able to conduct their observations in real time using a dedicated execution sequence.
In addition, advanced users can use an Application Programming Interface (API) to programmatically create and modify large numbers of OBs.
More details related to the use and benefits of p2 and p2ls can be found on the p2 help pages.
