Extracted Observing Reports for 168.A-0322(B): Night information

Telescope: Melipal (UT3)
Instrument: VIMOS

This is a summary of night log information extracted for all those nights which got observations for your run and which are contained in this data delivery.

This information has been extracted from a database which contains information ingested during the nights. The database is also maintained to reflect e.g. a posteriori updates of the OB grading.

This report is structured into two parts:
- breakdown by nights (this page)
- breakdown by OBs.

This page is an extraction of general night information for all nights with OBs in this data delivery. Usually an OB will produce files but there are exceptions, e.g. when an OB is aborted due to degrading conditions. Therefore there might be entries in this nightlog summary which do not correspond to any of the files contained in your data package.

On the other hand there is a small chance of having OBs or files delivered without nightlog entries. The most likely cause could be operational problems during the night.

2003-07-09 lost twilights in order to finish to fix FEU #3 unit in any case very thin clouds conditions.
TK clouds in the directions of the only program suitable at the beginning of the night 01:35 h lost weather.
we start one OB 141524 violating the constraints in order to check the MEU/GRISM
functionality
03:01 idle time used by the Eng.Supp. to investigate the GEU #4 problem.
I really do not know how to classify the last 2 hours of the night.
The IFU is offline waiting for fixing the mask arm positioner and I have programs
executable in these weather conditions with this mode. On the other hand
there is not suitable for imaging and MOS. I executed few OBs for the large program 168.A-0322 but I have to classify them as C because is definetively not clear..

2003-07-26 Technical time used to check image elongation problem report last night as there is nothing observable in the queues until midnight. Several failures during technical time (PPRS-10326; corotator and PPRS-10333 GEU2), but not counted as technical loss as everything was fixed before we could start observing science targets again.
01:49 technical downtime due to failure of Fiera B. The 01:49 is calculated from the end of the last OB (08:13 UT) to the start of twilight (10:00 UT). However, the weather conditions are deteriorating, and there is nothing in the queue that can be observed anyway (given the previous failure of GEU2). I have therefore decided not to call the software people to investigate the problem.

00:25 minutes of technical down time due to a problem with the Fiera B (PPRS 10367)
00:10 minutes of preparation were due to the wrong coordinate in one of the standard star OB's prepared in Paranal. The OB was aborted and no data were taken.
00:37 minutes lost for Fiera B problem. PPRS 10369.
00:15 minutes added for the same problem a second time (added to the same PPRS)
00:16 minutes lost due to a template problem with the IFU acquisition. PPRS 10371

Problem with the insertion of mask in unit 2 was detected in the specphot.

Technical losses from 01:45 to 02:05 and from 02:31 to 03:43 due to problems with active optics (see PPRS # 11383)
We observed all the night in IMG mode with th I filter. User defined constraints were CLR, in fact, there were low altitude thin (and some times thick) cirrus.
UT3 technical time from 06:23 to 08:21 used for active optics technical tests

VIMOS technical time from 00:34 to 01:22 was used to test guidecam software with IFU
The gap betwen 03:04 and 03:37 is due to the fact the fact that we have changed filters by hand (from R to I)
Night in IMG mode with R filter and then I filter
