Dear Libes Maurice,

 there was recently a discussion on X-servers using 24 Bit deep
 color modes (i.e. true color lookup tables) and using MIDAS. Your
 problem might be related to that. The discussion is too long to
 be given here again so you might find further hints by looking to
 the mailing list archive.
