VISIR Quality Control

VISIR - The VLT Imager and Spectrometer for the mid-InfraRed is an instrument providing diffraction limited, high sensitivity imaging in the two mid-infrared atmospheric windows: the N band between 8 and 13 microns and the Q band between 16.5 and 24.5 microns. It is also capable of taking long-slit and echelle spectroscopic observations with spectral resolution of about 300, 3000, and 15000, respectively.

VISIR was undergoing an upgrade starting in May 2012: the detectors have been replaced and have now 1024x1024 pixels (instead of 256x256). Furthermore, the low-resolution spectroscopy mode has been modified so that the complete N band can now be observed with a single exposure.
