Oral title: High Resolution Spectroscopy: past, present and future 

Oral abstract: With CES, CASPEC (both de-commissioned), FEROS, HARPS and in the near 
future NIRPS, La Silla has been and still is an excellent laboratory for high resolution spectroscopy, 
initiating a tradition that has continued, vigorously, with the VLT.  I will review the  last 30 years 
developments in the field  and  I will discuss the perspectives, focusing on two major trends: on the 
one side the high precision and accuracy requirements for the new instruments (including at the 
VLT and ELT), and on the other side on massive spectroscopic surveys.
