Oral title: The early years of the relations between ESO and the Chilean astronomical community

Oral abstract: We wil present a view (mostly personal) of the relations between ESO and ESO staff 
with Chilean astronomers, in the years when ESO was consolidating its preesence in Chile, 
basically with the development of the La Silla Observatory, and corresponding initiatives in Santiago 
and Europe.
