Prestellar and Protostellar Cores

I will review current theoretical models for the formation and evolution of dense cores. I will discuss the key physics underlying core 
properties, stability and collapse. I will report on state-of-the-art numerical calculations and discuss efforts to compare these to 
observations.
Finally, I will summarize remaining open questions.
