Development of a special tool to improve the assembly of Helium flex-lines
The assembly of several kilometres of segmented He-flex lines will be one of the main tasks for the ELT cryocooler infrastructure during the installation phase on-site Armazones in Chile. Up to now this kind of work is executed in the ESO HQ laboratories with a standard tool set. The effort of the assembly task in the lab and in the ELT could be reduced significantly by the development of special tools. On the commercial market there are some ratch ring wrenches existing, but only up to 30mm wrench size. For the Helium flex-line assembly there are various larger wrench sizes required. The activity would cover the development of the tools, including manufacturing, integration and testing.
