Clear skies above the National Observatory of Athens

Founded in 1842, the National Observatory of Athens is the oldest research institute in Greece. Sitting atop Nymphs Hill in Athens, the building, which was completed in 1846, is shaped as a cross, oriented along the cardinal compass directions.
