Halo over Paranal
A halo of light appears to encircle the Moon above ESO's Paranal Observatory and the Very Large Telescope (VLT). The phenomenon, sometimes called a Winter Halo, is caused by light passing through ice crystals suspended high up in Earth's atmosphere.
