Archway over Paranal

The majestic splendour of the Milky Way arches over ESO's Paranal Observatory in this amazing panorama. In the foreground, the familiar glass dome of the Paranal Residencia rises from a desert landscape. Towards the horizon, a mixture of soft red and green hues — a phenomena called airglow — are seen to fill the sky. Within these glows, the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds are visible.
