Beneath a Supernova

This images shows the ESO Headquarters in Garching bei München, as viewed from the ESO Supernova Planetarium & Visitor Centre, a cutting-edge free astronomy centre for the public.

The golden panels in the upper portion of this image sheath the outside of the ESO Supernova's, with no two panels being exactly the same shape or size. This is just one aspect of the remarkable design of the building, which is intended to resemble a close double-star system with one star transferring mass to its companion.
