Path of 2019 total solar eclipse

The path traced by a total solar eclipse over ESO’s La Silla Observatory on 2 July 2019. The last total solar eclipse visible from La Silla took place at the end of the 16th century, and the next will not be until the year 2231. To celebrate this year’s event ESO held an eclipse viewing event at the Observatory, which brought together local visitors, international tourists, researchers, and the media to experience the eclipse together.
