And the winners are...
ESO and EAAE are delighted to announce the winners of the Catch a Star 2007 contest. We would like to congratulate everyone who took part in the competition. The standard of the entries was most impressive, which made the task of choosing winners difficult, and the jury enjoyed reading the projects on which the teams had worked so hard. Even if you did not receive a prize this year, we hope you had fun taking part, and learnt some exciting things about our Universe! Look out for the next "Catch a Star!" competition...
Thank you also to the members of the public who voted in the Artists competition.
The winners listed below are subject to confirmation of eligibility (according to the rules given in "How to enter" ). We will be contacting winners shortly to confirm details, but if you have any questions please email us at eduinfo@eso.org .
The winners of the top prize, a trip to the ESO Very Large Telescope in Chile:
The top prize in Catch a Star 2007 was a week-long trip to Chile to visit the ESO Very Large Telescope (VLT) on Paranal. It was won by students Jan Mestan and Jan Kotek from Gymnazium Pisek in the Czech Republic, together with their teacher Marek Tyle. Their report on "Research and Observation of the Solar Eclipse" told how they had studied solar eclipses, and involved their fellow students in observations of an eclipse from their school in 2006.
You can read more about the winners in the ESO press release announcing the results.
The following material is the responsibility of the participants, and not of ESO:
- You can read their winning project, Research and Observation of the Solar Eclipse.
- The winners travelled to Chile in August 2007, to visit the ESO Very Large Telescope (VLT) on Paranal. You can watch a video on YouTube which they made during their trip.
