Dear Fellow Communicators,
Every year we’ve been trying to get a bit further ahead with those tasks that can be planned in advance, so that we can open the ESO Supernova Planetarium & Visitor Centre (Spring 2018) in style. We’re planning ahead this year to such an extent that you can already order the 2018 ESO Calendar. This is our fastest selling product, so do not hesitate to secure your copy even if it’s still only August :)
Our focus is on the year 2018 from other perspectives as well, and we have recently opened a vacancy for an Education Coordinator. If you have the required experience and qualifications, we’d love to see an application from you.
On the #AttemptingTheImpossible front, we are asking ourselves what are the Challenges in Obtaining an Image of a Supermassive Black Hole? This is the latest blog post in the Event Horizon Telescope series, while we await news from the scientists analysing the complex data.
Since our last editorial, the Red Dots project has continued to obtain data from HARPS and to look for exoplanets around some of the closest stars to our Solar System. Follow their journey on Facebook, on their Twitter account, via the hashtag #RedDots, or on their blog.
Last, but not least, for our readers passionate about astrophotography, do not forget that you only have a few days left to submit your photos to the Photo Nightscape Awards 2017 and be in with a chance of winning a trip to our very own Very Large Telescope in Chile.
Let’s reach new heights in astronomy together!
