Dear Fellow Communicators,
We hope you are having a great start to 2017! Our first project of the year is an experiment with bite-sized astronomy videos. We have launched the ESOCast Light series of videos; each summarises a few essential facts from our most important news in a short, dynamic video. We have designed this product for busy people who are on the move and don’t necessarily have the time to read a full press release. The ESOCast Light series will not replace our regular, longer podcast episodes. Watch the first two episodes in the Light series: ESOcast 90 Light – Orion’s Cloudy Secrets and ESOcast 91 Light: VLT to search for planets around Alpha Centauri. We would love to hear your feedback!
The second ESOCast Light video focuses on another project ESO is announcing at the beginning of the year: a collaboration with the Breakthrough Initiatives to adapt the Very Large Telescope instrumentation in Chile to conduct a search for planets in the nearby Alpha Centauri star system.
By now those of you who subscribe to the print version of CAPjournal should have received issue 21. Don’t forget to confirm your print subscription if you wish to continue receiving the journal (read the subscription note inside the magazine and use the URL printed on the envelope).
There are just a few spaces left for the Data to Dome workshop on 2–3 March 2017 in Tokyo, Japan. The workshop will bring together planetarium professionals, astronomers, and visualisation experts to advance the state of the art in big data visualisation in planetariums.
And don’t forget to save the date for the Communicating Astronomy with the Public Conference 2018 which will be in Fukuoka, Japan, 24–28 March 2018.
Let’s reach new heights in astronomy together!
