Dear Fellow Communicators,
Welcome to 2013! May it be a year full of creative and efficient efforts in communicating astronomy with the public! For us it will be the year of the ALMA Inauguration on 13 March, and the 50th anniversary of ESO’s presence in Chile on 6 November.
To stay on top of the latest developments in science communication, don’t miss this year’s CAP conference, which will take place in Warsaw, Poland, from 14 to 18 October 2013. We hope to see many of you there!
We have started the year by welcoming a new Photo Ambassador to our network: Julien Girard. Julien has been a staff astronomer at ESO since 2009, dividing his time between Santiago and Paranal Observatory, where he is the instrument scientist for VLT/NACO (and soon SPHERE). His own research topics reflect his broad interests, and include the direct imaging of extrasolar planets, searching for brown dwarfs in nearby molecular clouds and studying young circumstellar discs. You can check out his photos here.
We take this opportunity to let you know that our ESO Calendar 2013 is running out (as planned)! Don’t miss this last chance to get one!
Let’s reach new heights in astronomy together,
Lars Lindberg Christensen (lars@eso.org) Head, ESO education and Public Outreach Department (ePOD)
