ESO News

Een team van astronomen heeft nieuwe waarnemingen gepresenteerd van nabije sterrenstelsels die op kleurrijk kosmisch vuurwerk lijken. De opnamen, verkregen met de Very Large Telescope (VLT) van de Europese Zuidelijke Sterrenwacht (ESO), tonen verschillende componenten van de sterrenstelsels in afzonderlijke kleuren, wat astronomen in staat stelt om de locaties van jonge sterren en het warme gas om hen heen te lokaliseren. Door deze nieuwe waarnemingen te combineren met gegevens van de Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA), waar ESO een van de partners van is, helpt het team nieuw licht te werpen op wat gas ertoe aanzet om sterren te vormen.
